- Arrive 10 Minutes Early: You cannot secure a place in the first row if you arrive after the Iqamah. Make it a habit to reach the Masjid before the Iqamah is called.
- Fill the Gaps: If you see a gap in the row in front of you during prayer, step forward to fill it. The Prophet said: "Whoever fills a gap in a row, Allah will raise him by a degree and build a house for him in Paradise." (Sunan Ibn Majah).
- Respect the Imam's Deputies: The area directly behind the Imam should ideally be occupied by mature, knowledgeable people who can correct the Imam if he makes a mistake in recitation or take over the prayer if he has to leave.

Common Questions (FAQ)
1. Does a latecomer have the right to push people to get to the first row?
No, it is highly disliked (Makruh) to step over people's shoulders (known as Takhaddi al-Riqab) to reach the front rows. This causes distraction and discomfort to those already sitting and remembering Allah. You should sit where the line ends when you arrive.
2. Is the first row also the best row for women?
In congregational prayers where men and women pray in the same open hall without a partition, the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "The best of the men's rows is the first, and the worst is the last; and the best of the women's rows is the last, and the worst is the first." (Sahih Muslim). This is to maintain maximum modesty and distance. However, in modern Masjids with separate halls or solid partitions, the first row of the women's section carries the same reward as the men's first row.
3. What if I stand alone in a row behind a full row?
It is disliked to pray alone in a row behind the congregation. If you arrive and the last row is completely full, you should try to gently pull a person from the front row back to join you (if they understand the ruling), or join the row if you can squeeze in, or wait for someone else to arrive. In some schools (like Hanbali), praying alone in a row makes the prayer invalid.
