Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti spent nearly four decades in Ajmer, devoting his days to prayer, teaching Quranic wisdom, and feeding the destitute. Before his passing in 1236 CE (633 AH), he appointed his premier disciple, Khwaja Qutbuddin Bakhtiyar Kaki, to continue the Chishti legacy in Delhi.
On the 6th day of the Islamic month of Rajab in 633 AH, Khwaja Sahib passed away in his quiet cell in Ajmer. When his companions opened the door, they found his peaceful face veiled, with lines inscribed upon his forehead: "He was the beloved of Allah, and he died in the love of Allah."
Over the centuries, rulers, scholars, poets, and common citizens have visited the Dargah of Ajmer Sharif. Emperor Akbar famously walked barefoot from Agra to Ajmer multiple times as a token of reverence. Yet, the true glory of Ajmer Sharif lies not in royal patronage, but in the millions of humble seekers who find solace, food, and spiritual renewal within its marble courtyards every year.
