Introduction

Section 1: When is Tayammum Permissible?
تیمم سہولت کی بات نہیں ہے۔ یہ ایک قانونی آسانی (رخصہ) ہے جسے صرف مخصوص حالات میں استعمال کیا جا سکتا ہے:
- Complete Absence of Water: If there is no water available at your location, and you cannot find water within a reasonable distance (typically about 1.7 kilometers or a mile) despite searching.
- Harm to Health: If using water will worsen your sickness, delay your recovery, or cause severe pain due to a medical condition or injury.
- Danger in Accessing Water: If there is water nearby, but reaching it is dangerous due to an enemy, wild animals, or physical barriers.
- Extreme Cold: If the weather is freezing and you have no way of heating the water, and using cold water will cause you severe illness or frostbite.
- Scarcity of Water: If the only water available is needed for drinking and survival for yourself, your family, or your animals.

Performing Tayammum is simple and takes less than a minute. The steps are as follows:
1. نیت کریں (نیّت)
نماز کو مباح بنانے اور نجاست کی حالت کو دور کرنے کے لیے تیمم کرنے کا دل میں ارادہ کریں۔
2. Say the Basmalah
Begin by saying: "Bismillah" (In the name of Allah).
3. زمین پر حملہ کریں۔
Strike clean, dry earth, sand, or a stone gently with the palms of both hands.
4. اضافی دھول کو اڑا دیں۔
Blow over your palms to shake off any excess dust, ensuring your hands are clean and not carrying heavy dirt.
5. چہرے کا مسح کریں۔
Wipe your entire face once with your palms, from the forehead to the chin and from cheek to cheek, just as you would in Wudu.
6. Wipe the Hands and Arms
Wipe the back of your right hand with your left palm, and the back of your left hand with your right palm. (In some schools of thought, like Hanafi, the arms must be wiped up to the elbows. In the Hanbali and Shafi'i schools, wiping only the hands up to the wrists is sufficient. Both methods are based on authentic understandings).

’’اور اگر تم بیمار ہو یا سفر پر ہو یا تم میں سے کوئی قضائے حاجت کی جگہ سے آئے یا تم نے عورتوں سے رابطہ کیا ہو اور پانی نہ ملے تو پاک مٹی سے تیمم کرو اور اپنے چہروں اور ہاتھوں کا مسح کرو، بے شک اللہ تعالیٰ معاف کرنے والا اور بخشنے والا ہے۔‘‘

سورۃ المائدہ میں وضو، غسل اور تیمم کے مراحل کی تفصیل کے بعد اللہ تعالیٰ فرماتے ہیں:
"Allah does not intend to make difficulty for you, but He intends to purify you and complete His favor upon you that you may be grateful."

دفعہ 4: تیمم سے متعلق حدیث کے شواہد
نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے زمین کو پاکیزگی کا ذریعہ قرار دیتے ہوئے اسے امت مسلمہ کے لیے ایک منفرد نعمت قرار دیا۔
In an authentic narration, the Prophet (peace be upon him) said:
"I have been given five things which were not given to anyone before me... and the earth has been made for me a place of prayer and a means of purification. Therefore, anyone of my followers who finds himself in a place where prayer is due can pray." — جابر بن عبداللہ سے روایت ہے، صحیح البخاری اور صحیح مسلم میں جمع ہے
This Hadith shows that if we are in a place with no mosque or water, the clean earth itself is our mosque and our source of Wudu.
سیکشن 5: مسافروں اور بیماروں کے لیے عملی اسباق
- Keep Clean Earth Handy: If you are traveling to a remote area with scarce water, or if you are hospitalized and unable to move, keep a clean stone or a small box of clean soil nearby for Tayammum.
- Perform Tayammum on Clean Dust: You can perform Tayammum on dry mud, clay, sand, stone, or even dust that accumulates on clean surfaces.
- One Tayammum for Multiple Prayers: In the Hanafi school, a single Tayammum is valid for both obligatory and voluntary prayers as long as it is not broken by the regular nullifiers. In other schools, a new Tayammum is required for each obligatory prayer.
- Be Grateful for the Ease: Remember that Islam does not demand perfection at the cost of your health. Accepting the ease of Tayammum when sick is an act of obedience.
- اگر پانی میسر ہو جائے تو دوبارہ وضو کریں: اگر آپ نے تیمم کیا اور نماز پڑھی اور پھر نماز کا وقت ختم ہونے سے پہلے *پانی دستیاب ہوگیا تو آپ کو نماز کو دوبارہ پڑھنے کی ضرورت نہیں ہے۔ البتہ آئندہ نماز کے لیے آپ کا تیمم باطل ہے، اور آپ پر پانی کا استعمال ضروری ہے۔
Common Questions (FAQ)
1. تیمم کس چیز سے ٹوٹتا ہے؟
Tayammum is broken by the exact same things that break Wudu (like toilet use, deep sleep, gas, etc.). Additionally, Tayammum is automatically nullified the moment water becomes available and you are capable of using it.
2. کیا میں صاف دیوار پر تیمم کر سکتا ہوں؟
Yes, if the wall is made of natural stone, brick, plaster, or clay, or if it has a layer of natural dust on it, you can strike it to perform Tayammum. Painted walls that have no dust are not suitable.
3. What if I have a bandage or cast over my arm?
اگر آپ کے پاس کوئی پٹی، کاسٹ یا زخم ہے جسے دھویا نہیں جا سکتا تو آپ اپنے جسم کے صحت مند حصوں پر وضو کریں اور گیلے ہاتھوں سے پٹی (مسح) پر نرمی سے مسح کریں۔ اگر مسح کرنے سے بھی نقصان ہو تو تیمم کر سکتے ہیں۔
4. کیا تیمم وضو اور غسل دونوں کو بدل سکتا ہے؟
Yes, if a person is in a state of major impurity (requiring Ghusl) and meets the conditions for Tayammum, they can perform a single Tayammum with the intention of removing the major impurity. This replaces the Ghusl until water becomes available.
5. اگر میں تیمم کے ساتھ نماز پڑھوں اور اس کے فوراً بعد پانی تلاش کروں؟
If you completed your prayer using Tayammum and then found water, your prayer is fully valid, and you do not need to repeat it. The Prophet (peace be upon him) told a companion who faced this situation: "You have followed the Sunnah, and your prayer is sufficient for you." (Sunan Abi Dawud).
