Episode 02 — The Rigorous Compilation of Al-Jami' al-Sahih
"The sixteen years of spiritual devotion and unprecedented criteria used to select 7,275 authentic Hadiths out of 600,000."
The idea to compile a dedicated book containing exclusively authentic (Sahih) Hadiths arose during a gathering with his teacher, Ishaq ibn Rahawayh, who remarked: "If only someone would assemble a concise book of the authentic Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah." That suggestion sparked an unquenchable fire in Imam Bukhari's heart.
Over the next sixteen years, Imam Bukhari examined over 600,000 narrations. He established criteria so strict that no Hadith scholar before or after him matched them: 1. Every narrator in the chain had to be proved completely truthful, morally upright, possessing flawless memory. 2. It had to be historically verified that each narrator actually met the person from whom they reported the Hadith directly.
Furthermore, Imam Bukhari treated the compilation as an act of pure worship. For every single Hadith he selected, he performed Ghusl (ritual purification), prayed two units of Istikhara prayer in the Rawdah of the Prophet's Mosque in Medina, and sought divine guidance before penning it down. The result was 'Al-Jami' al-Sahih', universally recognized as the most authentic book after the Quran.
